Glutinous Rice Cantonese Snack Ingredients and Preparation

Glutinous Rice 1000g
Dried Shrimp 3 pieces


Pork 400g

Prepare and wash the bamboo leaves and binding strings in advance, and soak the glutinous rice overnight the day before.


2. Prepare garlic cloves, shredded preserved radish (chai po), peanuts, minced dried shrimp, and soaked and fried shiitake mushrooms. Additionally, prepare pork that has been marinated in soy sauce a day in advance.


3. Add an appropriate amount of five-spice powder to glutinous rice and mix evenly. Set aside.


4. Heat oil in a wok.


5. Add minced dried shrimp and shredded preserved radish, stir-fry until fragrant.


6. Add glutinous rice and stir-fry briefly until well combined.


7. Add an appropriate amount of fine salt.


8. Remove the stir-fried glutinous rice from the wok and let it cool. Set aside.


9. Take a piece of bamboo leaf and fold it as shown in the diagram.


10. Add an appropriate amount of glutinous rice and garlic cloves.


11. Add peanuts, shiitake mushrooms, and pork slices.
12. Add an appropriate amount of glutinous rice.


13. Fold and press to prevent rice from leaking, then tie securely with binding leaves.


14. Divide the tied raw zongzi into groups of four or five.


15. Place them in a soup pot and add enough water to submerge the zongzi completely.


16. Cook in the soup pot for one and a half hours, then remove, drain, and allow to cool before serving.


17. The delicious Cantonese-style assorted savory zongzi is now complete.
